Where to Find Source Material
Trying to locate a new or out-of-print book related to lesbian poetry?
Try some of these sources:
-
Gay and Lesbian Bookstores
-
For more recent anthologies and biographies, check the poetry and
history sections at a local gay and lesbian bookstore. If you do not
have a gay and lesbian bookstore in your area, see if a major chain
bookstore in your city includes a separate section for gay and lesbian
literature, or contact a women's bookstore. See Gay
and Lesbian Bookstores for a list of bookstores by region. Also,
you can mail order gay and lesbian titles from A
Different Light bookstore (New York, San Francisco, West Hollywood)
and Lambda Rising (Washington, D.C.).
-
Public Libraries
-
Sometimes you can find out-of-print books in libraries--I found many
biographies and older anthologies at large metropolitan public libraries.
-
Education websites
-
-
Education websites sometimes include electronic text of works in
the public domain. Use the Alta
Vista search engine to find specific writers, or check out the
Directory
of Electronic Text Centers at Rutgers University for general resources.
-
-
Locate out-of-print books using this service--it links together thousands
of independent booksellers from around the world.
-
-
A great place to browse books online. If you don't go for the politics
of ordering from a monolithic mega-bookstore, then use it for research.
I often locate titles through Amazon.com, then see if I can find the
books locally. If I can't, I order through Amazon.com, and I get the
books in a few days, with perfect service.
